Can You Hear Me Now?
A silence within us allowing us the ability to hear a pin drop within our spirit. Noise pollution surrounds us from our daily life’s activities- the distractions of our soul realm (mind, will, emotions). The busy churning of our mental wheels, struggling to ‘figure it all out’. Grating on our spirit man, competing for the ‘Lordship” of our day, our very lives.
We want to run to a quiet place, to escape the endless atmospheric disturbances surrounding us. We dream of mountain cabins and seashore walks. While these are needed ‘escapes and respites’, our true quest must be to learn to be still inside – this quiet within – amidst the busy, noisy places of our daily journey. It is ‘knowing the mountain behind the mountain’. This was the quest of the Celtic believers – to truly know the One Who created all of the mountains and as they sat in quiet contemplation in their native highlands, they would fellowship with ‘their Mountain, their Rock, their Shelter, their Fortress – their God. They sat in awe of the Creator Who sought to commune with His people.
This silence leads to – 1 Thessalonians 1:5 “because our gospel came to you not simply with words, but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake”.
This word ‘power’ means dunamis which is our word for dynamite. It is the 4th of July within, explosive with colors and sounds of the Creator’s Power releasing an awe of His wonders. The church cries out for power but often lacks the foundations from which it is received- communion with the One Who is all power and gives to us His power for His purposes.
We are to be a people settled inside, pioneering outwardly, surefooted and steadfast in our gait. Because of our silence we are able to hear the slightest whisper of a change of direction or plans from Above.
There are not lack of ‘cell towers’ for the purpose of receptivity, for Holy Spirit is within. The only time of disconnection is if we choose to tune out His Voice. The Father is always speaking.
The question is, are we listening?
Are our batteries charged daily in His Word and Presence? Is HOME on speed dial – Jer. 33:3 “Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know”.
There is not need for ‘roaming’ features – we have direct access – 24/7/365.
Some say God is a gentleman. I agree to a point. I also believe in His Holy Jealousy. He is rudely interrupting our lives in this hour. He is breaking into unholy conversations with the enemy of our lives and disconnecting dialogue of discontentment with unhealthy soul friends. The question is, do we redial, frantic and frustrated when He disconnects? Or do we understand His call to silence within? How silent is this? Silent enough to hear a pin drop!
God is after every interruption between Himself and us. Even those things we call ‘good’. The world doesn’t seem to be able to exist without its cell phones – the restlessness of constant communication. Could it be that this somehow makes us feel value, worth? Our phones ring and we are not alone anymore. 100, 200, 6000, 1,000 minutes – how many minutes of conversation in a week or month do we spend in conversation with out friends? How many minutes do we spend dialoguing with Him?
Psalm 27:8 “My heart has heard you says, ‘come and talk with Me, and my heart responds, LORD, I am coming”.
Holy dialogue with a Holy God! In this we receive divine revelation of Him. He in us, us in Him. Slowly our speed dial numbers are used less and less and we respond to His Invitation in Psalm 27 to come and be with Him.
“Why”, you ask, ‘Is this important? To be able to hear a pin drop?” Because it means there is clarity of communication – no interference – no static – no crossed lines.
We, His people, are to walk and live in truth and lead others to the Truth, the Person of Jesus Christ. We must hear Him clearly to be able to convey with clarity His message of restoration to a world living in the static of communication from the dark pit below. This unholy static disrupts destinies and leads many astray to dead end paths, false hopes and dreams, confusion and bewilderment.
Telemarketers from Satan’s communication headquarters dial into our minds and souls. We have built-in telezappers from the Word of God. “Put on the helmet of salvation” – Eph. 6:27.
“They won’t follow a stranger, they will run from him because they don’t recognize his voice” – -John 10:5. “We take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ” – 2 Cor. 10:5.
When the phone or our soul rings with ‘out of area’ why do we even answer?
When the FATHER CALLS IT READS – “HOME”!
The concerning part is, are we too busy, tired, distracted to answer HIM when He calls?
He sometimes out of His pursuing love, causes us to ‘be still’ by circumstances He allows.
We cry out and kick in our restlessness and lack of activity. He holds us down. He pins us, if you will, with His Arms of Love and says “Shhhh. Be still. Sit with Me awhile.”
Will we give way? Will we give in?
“Can you hear Me now?” Says the Lord?
